Despite his parents repeatedly reporting the problem over several years, no action was taken by their social landlord.

Awaab’s Law now requires social landlords to act quickly when damp or mould is reported, with legal consequences for delays or failure to address the problem. The requirements are automatically implied into tenancy agreements, empowering tenants to take legal action, seek redress through the landlord’s complaints procedure, or escalate matters to the Housing Ombudsman Service.
